Haunted

Feature Film

Synopsis

October 19, 2003. A violent storm and a fateful visit to the beach fracture the remote Australian country town of One Season. Four years later, as local teenagers begin to disappear, unease settles in the community. At its centre, a reclusive man is forced out of his stagnant life. Facing the demolition of his illegal home and stalked by a supernatural entity, he is drawn into a confrontation that will expose a past he has spent years trying to bury.

About

Haunted marks the second feature film from this Australian directing duo. Their debut feature, Nightfall, "created an unforgettable experience of horror cinema" (Dead Northern Fest) and is currently being released internationally through Black Mandala Films across theatrical, streaming, and Blu-ray.

Haunted takes it to the next level.

Featuring an all-star South Australian cast including David Daradan, Joseph Baronio, and Nathaniel Kelly — alongside feature debuts from Jack Rawlinson and Jordan Bender — the film took over four years to create. Executive produced by Michael Kraetzer and Nicolás Onetti (HBO's 1978) from Black Mandala, the project was hailed internally as "a cinematic triumph" with "a personal, poetic, and ambiguous exploration of identity and trauma."

The 80-minute psychological horror is a highly emotional drama that borders on underlying queer and esoteric themes. Set in early 2000s Australia and shot across a variety of iconic South Australian locations, the production endured gruelling weather conditions and dangerous set pieces before a lengthy post-production process finally brought this ambitious, artistic vision to life.

The result is one of pure beauty — reminiscent of recent A24 films, and a love letter to 2000s cinema and the Australian landscape. Dick Dale (Ripspreader) described it internally as "a surreal nightmare fever dream that will sit with you long after... it might be movie of the year."

Haunted stands as one of the most exciting South Australian productions since Talk to Me — completed by an incredible original score from James Monro and Amelia Rooney that is not soon forgotten.
