This compelling new film will be written and directed by the talented Seamus Mintrom, with Brad McCarthy taking the producer's chair. This project marks a reunion for the creative duo, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

About the Film

'Chekhov's Daughter' tells the story of a doctor and amateur actress who finds the lines between her own life and her art beginning to blur. The film will delve deep into the timeless themes that Chekhov himself so brilliantly explored: the rigid constructs of class and social status, the slow creep of moral decay, and the intricate masks we all wear in our daily lives. True to the spirit of 'The Cherry Orchard' — a play famously debated as either a comedy or a tragedy — 'Chekhov's Daughter' will straddle the fine line between drama and comedy, finding humour in the sorrow and pathos in the absurd.

A Proven Creative Team

This film is the third collaboration between writer/director Seamus Mintrom and Brad McCarthy, who have previously worked together on the short films 'Great Artist's Steal' and 'Commission Breath'. While Brad was a member of the lead cast in both of these films, he will be stepping behind the camera for this project, serving exclusively as a producer to help bring Seamus's unique vision to the screen.

Filming for 'Chekhov's Daughter' is set to commence in mid-2026. The film will be shot on location in Melbourne, utilizing the incredible local talent and settings it has to offer.
